Mark your calendars for June 26th and July 10th for the mobile Feed And Read. This is for all children ages 0-18 and children do not have to be Randolph County students. Children will be given free books and snacks. Together, we will go FAR!

Mrs. Tiffner's 3rd-5th grade class was able to witness metamorphosis up close. They watched tiny caterpillars transform into beautiful butterflies, and helped care for these caterpillars and butterflies for 3 weeks. They released the butterflies into nature.

Schools will administer the West Virginia General Summative Assessment (WVGSA) for Grades 3-8 this spring. The WVGSA is a test measuring academic progress for students and schools in West Virginia.
The WVGSA is an untimed test administered online. All public school students will participate in the WVGSA at the grade level in which they are enrolled, unless they meet the criteria for participation in the West Virginia Alternate Summative Assessment.
Students in Grades 3-8 will take the English language arts (ELA) reading, ELA writing, and
mathematics tests, with students in Grades 5 and 8 also taking the science test.
Student scores will be accessible to parents/guardians shortly after the completion of a content area test.
More information and specific dates and times will be posted at a later date.

What is Chronic Absence? Here's What Parents Need to Know!
Did you know that missing just 2 days a month—excused or unexcused—can add up to a chronic absence? That’s 18 or more days over the course of a school year.
Chronic absence affects students of all ages and can have a serious impact on:
✔️ Academic performance
✔️ Reading and math achievement
✔️ Graduation rates
✔️ Long-term success in school and beyond
Even in the early grades, every day matters. Students can fall behind quickly and may struggle to catch up—especially in subjects that build day by day.
How can parents help?
✅ Make school attendance a priority
✅ Schedule appointments outside of school hours when possible
✅ Keep open communication with the school if your child is struggling
✅ Reach out—we’re here to support you!
Let’s work together to ensure students are present, engaged, and ready to succeed. When it comes to learning…
✅ Each School Day Counts.
✅ Every One.
Today, Randolph County Schools has 16.87% of its students identified as Chronically Absent. Forty-One Percent (41%) of RCS students have no attendance issues. Let's work to make that number grow by June 4th!

Congratulations to our 3rd nine weeks Students of the Quarter!!

A huge thank you to Dave Whipp, for purchasing and planting a peach tree for our kindergartener, Hattie. Hattie is looking forward to watching her tree grow through the years and harvesting fresh, juicy peaches from it for her classmates to enjoy! Hattie will graduate in 2037. We are looking forward to watching them both grow at Pickens School!

Students love eating lunch and talking to Officer Rocky. PRO Officer Rocky talks to the students about safety and even took time out to read them a Dr. Seuss book for Read Across America week.

Students will be going on the 3rd nine weeks field trip to the Hive Entertainment Zone. This is the new trampoline park at the Meadowbrook Mall. Parents must click on the link below and sign the waiver for their dependent before April 10th.

Students started their own herbs by seed, as part of their education in growing their own food.

Volunteers needed!! We have set dates for our playground installation for May 30th and 31st, from 8am until dark. We need at least 30 volunteers both days to complete this project. There’s a lot of pieces to put together and any helping hand is appreciated!! We need people who are handy with tools and good at putting things together. We will have an on-site contractor to assist with the construction. Please comment below or let a staff member know if you are able to commit to either day or both! Please share to help us get the word out! Our students are so excited for their new playground equipment. Thank you for helping make Pickens School shine!! 🌟
